Poetry & Philosophy

I love Joseph Campbell.  We watched an interview (with Bill Moyers) in philosophy class last night & he mentioned how it was hard for people to describe a spiritual experience (that wasn't exactly it, but it's the general idea).  He said that we are limited by our own language.  Words cannot always express how something really was, it's hard to articulate.  But you can do it in poetry.  You can write a poem & explain how it was to experience this thing & people will be more able to understand that.

Naturally, I'm paraphrasing all of this, but that was the gist of it.

If you don't know Campbell, look him up.  He's amazing.  He was one of the world's leading mythologists.  And he's just so brilliant.
